Wood’s Free Cooling / AirSwitch mode is a smart mode that turns the portable AC into a fresh‑air cooling system whenever the outdoor air is cooler than the indoor air. Instead of running the compressor, the unit opens an internal AirSwitch pathway and uses the fan to pull in cool outside air through a HEPA filter, giving quieter, cheaper and cleaner cooling.

Please Note: All portable air conditioners must be vented so that warm air is removed from the room being cooled. The ideal solution is to vent the unit through a wall or a window. For your convenience, this air conditioner is supplied with an exhaust hose and a window venting kit so you can start using it straight away. The provided kit is designed for sliding or sash windows and may not be suitable for other window types. However, the included exhaust outlet adapter can be used with most windows or doors to minimise the opening during cooling. For even better cooling performance, we offer an optional universal window seal at checkout.
Question from Pauline Daw: Asked on 24/06/2026 We have just bought a Woods Cortina 12,000 btu mobile air conditioner. Every time we use it the water tank becomes full after about 30 minutes. Do we need a drain hose? If so, please advise which one. Very disappointed with our purchase.
Hi, Yes, the manual confirms that a continuous drain hose can be fitted (12mm internal diameter). While the unit is designed to largely self-evaporate in normal cooling mode, higher humidity conditions can cause excess condensation to build up quickly, which is why the internal tank is filling and triggering the safety shut-off. In this situation, connecting a drain hose is the correct solution and will allow continuous operation without needing to manually empty the tank.
