Hi, For the Russell Hobbs RHGCH903DS cooker hood, carbon filters are required if the appliance is being used in recirculating (ductless) mode, as they are needed to remove cooking odours from the air before it is released back into the kitchen. If the hood is installed in ducted extraction mode (vented outside), carbon filters are not required.
